Program Overview

Using hands-on tools and professional audio software, students build original music from scratch, layering kicks, snares, cymbals, chords, melodies and transitions with a partner. Each layer of a song is added as partners rotate to a new laptop on their table, building on what previous partners made. By the end of the session, every song at the table comes together into an album they take home. At every rotation, they'll be presented with new tasks that require them to adapt and listen to new sounds, improvise, build teamwork, sharpen problem-solving, practice decision-making and responsibility, and find their own creative expression.

A Free Whole-School Show

Beat & Breeze can also include a free 15–30 minute whole-school show as part of your day, no matter how many sessions you book. Our instructors create a song from scratch by recording sounds made on cue by all the students in the audience. Volunteers are invited up to create melodic patterns on the MIDI keyboard.

Tailored to Every Year Level

Every session is tailored to suit your group, with flexible options for group size, age range, and duration. Beat & Breeze runs as two age-differentiated programs: a Lower Years program (Years PP–3) and an Upper Years program (Years 4–6), with tasks modified to suit each year level. No prior experience producing music or playing musical instruments necessary! Instructors at each table are experienced music producers who are tasked with assisting and supporting the learning needs of each student on their table. Every task at each rotation is thoroughly demonstrated before students undertake it.

Beat & Breeze naturally covers Australian Curriculum content in STEM (Digital Technologies and Mathematics) and the Arts (Music), while directly building the General Capabilities of collaboration, critical and creative thinking, and personal and social capability.
